Association corrects Hampton Roads coal export data
The Virginia Maritime Association has corrected some of its data for coal exports out of Hampton Roads, Virginia, in October and November 2024.
The association corrected its estimates for coal loaded at Norfolk Southern’s Lamberts Point terminal to 1.34mn short tons (1.22mn metric tonnes) in October and slightly more than that in November from previously-reported estimates of 1.21mn st and 1.25mn st, respectively.
The increase in estimates for Lamberts Point also resulted in overall Hampton Roads’ coal export volumes for October and November being revised up to 3.01mn st and 3.23mn st from a previously reported 2.88mn st and 3.15mn st. That also makes both months slightly higher than they had been a year earlier, instead of lower, and puts October at a 12-month low instead of a 13-month low.
The association’s year to date figures were revised to 38.4mn st for all of Hampton Roads in January-November from a previously estimated 38.2mn st.
