EKPC seeks coal for 2020, 2021
East Kentucky Power Cooperative (EKPC) is seeking up to 480,000 short tons (435,456 metric tonnes) of coal for 2020-21.
The Kentucky utility cooperative issued two requests for proposals (RFP) yesterday for its Spurlock Power Station. One solicitation seeks up to 10,000 st/month of coal for units 1 and 2 and the other is seeking up to 10,000st/month for units 3 and 4.
The RFP for units 1 and 2 requires coal with a minimum 11,000 Btu/lb, maximum 7lbs SO2/mmBtu maximum and at most 15pc ash. The other solicitation requires a minimum 9,000 Btu/lb coal, with no more than 10lb SO2/mmBtu and 30pc ash.
Coal for all four units is to be delivered via barge to milepost 414.1 on the Ohio river or by railcar to Charleston Bottoms, Kentucky, via CSX or TTI railroads.
