US met coal exports total 5.29 million mt in October: US Census
US metallurgical coal exports in October totaled 5.29 million mt, up 42.8% from the prior month and up 25.2% from the year-ago month, according to data released Thursday by the US Census.
It was also the second-highest total this year, behind 5.34 million mt in April.
Top met coal export destinations in October were Japan, at 967,447 mt compared with 347,585 mt in the year-ago month; the Netherlands, at 678,277 mt compared with 38,500 mt; and Canada, at 542,966 mt compared with 419,226 mt.
For the year, top met coal export destinations are Brazil, at 6.04 million mt compared with 5.16 million mt in the year-ago period; the Netherlands, at 4.84 million mt compared with 2.3 million mt; and Japan, at 4.7 million mt compared with 3.89 million mt.
Year-to-date, met coal exports total 47.3 million mt, up 15.6% from the year-ago period, and met coal exports for the full-year on an annualized basis would total 56.8 million mt, highest since 2014.
